Let’s Get Real

Cleaning mould from the windows and walls of the flat I am currently renting, this is how I spent my evening and now I sit down to write this blog post. This is because life isn’t always glamorous!

Blogging began with real people, but sometimes we often forget this. Many bloggers have mastered the art of making their life seem so effortlessly glamorous, with new beautiful locations every week and stunning photography, but this isn’t the case for most people! In reality we all live a life with highs and lows. We all have chores to complete and we all have to handle our responsibilities.

I must point out that I am in no way complaining about bloggers, but I just want to share a refreshing and positive reminder. With World Mental Health Day 2016 being last week on the 10th October, I think it is a very important topic to discuss. We spend so much time online now that it becomes almost automatic to compare life with everyone else’s.

Much of our generation today are struggling with mental health issues. Many of us deal with feelings of loneliness, even though we may have online connections all around the world. So much work can go into collecting ‘followers’, yet it can be a struggle to connect in reality and make life long friendships! Mental health is of course affected by many things, but I am sure that this cannot help.

I found peace of mind when I realised that the grass isn’t always greener and that you have to water what you have. It isn’t always the answer for everybody to quit their job and become an entrepreneur just because somebody else they know did. Sometimes it’s about making what you do have work for you.

How many people do you actually know that can spend their Monday sitting on their bed with a latte and a laptop or spending the entire day in a coffee shop? If you can, then honestly that is fantastic and I would never discourage anybody from following their dreams! However, I feel a lot of people my age are putting themselves under so much pressure and are constantly feeling like failures just because they don’t live a particular lifestyle. It can be very easy to forget that what you are viewing is controlled online content, not the ins and outs of somebodies life, not the nitty gritty bits.

Unfortunately I haven’t been blogging as much as I would like recently, I find it hard sometimes to make time for everything. Again, this is because we all live a life that needs attending to. Our mental wellbeing, our financial situations require work, our relationships are important and should not be neglected, these are all things that we have to take care of.

So I thought I would just post this as a refreshing reminder that life is real for everyone, it’s not just all bout that glitz and glam. If you find yourself struggling with mental health issues, know that you are not alone and that there are many people that are going through similar things. Don’t be too hard on yourself and don’t be afraid to seek advice because you deserve your happiness!

This is such an amazing post, beautiful, and one I can certainly relate to. This industry is very demanding and overwhelming and sometimes it's easy to feel as though your best really isn't the best. Though like you've mentioned, it's important for us to remind ourselves that what we see online is controlled and that it's not a fair nor complete representation of someone's life. There have been times when I was having such a bad day, but had to take photos for my blog and push through and smile. Those photos could've easily been interpreted as someone who has such a great, happy life, with not a care in the world, only to put together outfits. Of course I'm thankful and love my life, like you, it has its ups and downs and if I've gone through this, I can only imagine the countless accounts I've viewed that have the same story that day! Again, such a great post, beauty. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you have a great rest of the week!

Great post. So good to remind ourselves to take time to relax and unwind so that you're not stressing yourself out. Online photos don't always represent how we're feeling at the moment we're posting them. Always important to stay intuned and true to ourselves.

This is such a lovely post. I completely agree with you that we bloggers put so much pressure on ourselves. I'm definitely guilty of doing so. I think we need to remember that those perfect Instagram and blog photos are not always a true representation of how someone else lives. Sometimes it is all staged.

The blogging world definitely likes its polish, right? Pulling back the curtain, so to speak, is really important! Great post, lady!

Great post! It is very easy to compare our lives to others and to think the grass is always greener on the other side, but often the reality is different. So much better to be grateful for the things we do have rather than focusing on the things we don't have x

This is such a great post Marianne! I am not joking, just yesterday I emailed a friend that I think that my life is not that glamorous and free from worries like it seems to be of all those influencers. Like you said, we all have to take care of our financial situation, so we have to work, we have to take care of our relationships too and to deal with everyday life issues. Like you, I feel that I don't have as much time for blogging as I wish I would have! Thanks for this beautiful post with a very important message Marianne Sophia! xoxo

I know I'm guilty of presenting my life in a more glamorous version than it really is. I think I'm scared of showing the real me sometimes. Mental health is a particular hard topic to write about as I can't really verbalise how I feel when I'm down, if that makes sense? So it's easier to show the more positive aspects of my life.

I admit that mental health is somehow a difficult topic to write but you did it very well 🙂 We should keep all things balance eventhough it's hard as well.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment Jalisa! I'm sure most of us have had photograph days just like that! It's so easy to forget that others are just the same!

I hope you are having a great week!

    Much love,
