Let’s Get Real

Cleaning mould from the windows and walls of the flat I am currently renting, this is how I spent my evening and now I sit down to write this blog post. This is because life isn’t always glamorous!

Blogging began with real people, but sometimes we often forget this. Many bloggers have mastered the art of making their life seem so effortlessly glamorous, with new beautiful locations every week and stunning photography, but this isn’t the case for most people! In reality we all live a life with highs and lows. We all have chores to complete and we all have to handle our responsibilities.

I must point out that I am in no way complaining about bloggers, but I just want to share a refreshing and positive reminder. With World Mental Health Day 2016 being last week on the 10th October, I think it is a very important topic to discuss. We spend so much time online now that it becomes almost automatic to compare life with everyone else’s.

Much of our generation today are struggling with mental health issues. Many of us deal with feelings of loneliness, even though we may have online connections all around the world. So much work can go into collecting ‘followers’, yet it can be a struggle to connect in reality and make life long friendships! Mental health is of course affected by many things, but I am sure that this cannot help.

I found peace of mind when I realised that the grass isn’t always greener and that you have to water what you have. It isn’t always the answer for everybody to quit their job and become an entrepreneur just because somebody else they know did. Sometimes it’s about making what you do have work for you.

How many people do you actually know that can spend their Monday sitting on their bed with a latte and a laptop or spending the entire day in a coffee shop? If you can, then honestly that is fantastic and I would never discourage anybody from following their dreams! However, I feel a lot of people my age are putting themselves under so much pressure and are constantly feeling like failures just because they don’t live a particular lifestyle. It can be very easy to forget that what you are viewing is controlled online content, not the ins and outs of somebodies life, not the nitty gritty bits.

Unfortunately I haven’t been blogging as much as I would like recently, I find it hard sometimes to make time for everything. Again, this is because we all live a life that needs attending to. Our mental wellbeing, our financial situations require work, our relationships are important and should not be neglected, these are all things that we have to take care of.

So I thought I would just post this as a refreshing reminder that life is real for everyone, it’s not just all bout that glitz and glam. If you find yourself struggling with mental health issues, know that you are not alone and that there are many people that are going through similar things. Don’t be too hard on yourself and don’t be afraid to seek advice because you deserve your happiness!

Review of Estée Lauder, MAC & Yves Saint Laurent

It’s time for another makeup review! I purchased and photographed these products a while ago and I am finally going to review them for you!

Estée Lauder: Bronze Goddess – Cheek Glow in Blush Bonne Mine.
MAC: Prep and Prime Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30
Yves Saint Laurent: Touche Éclat’ Concealer & Highlighter
Estée Lauder: Bronze Goddess – Cheek Glow in Blush Bonne Mine

I love cream blushers; they look so glamorous on the cheek bone. They give a lovely shine and look really fresh on the face. I have often improvised and used lipstick as a cream blusher as I love the effect that a cream blush gives, so when I saw this cream blusher by Estée Lauder, I knew I had to give it a try. Especially as their Double Wear foundation is my all time favourite foundation, I have been using it since 2014 so I trust their products to be of good quality.

The colour of this cream blusher is perfect for summer, it gives a little bit of a warm glow to my porcelain skin. When using a cream blusher, make sure you blend the colour in well, start of with a little as it is easier to add more product than remove. I love the texture and colour of this blusher and I think this is a beautiful product!

MAC Prep and Prime Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30

You know those really good concealers that you come across sometimes, well this is one of them! I like to use this product as a concealer, for any areas that need a little extra coverage on top of my foundation. This work brilliantly as a concealer and offers fantastic coverage. I have this product in light and the colour match is perfect for me. I really dislike it when a concealer is so thin that you can see everything through it, but I am pleased to say that this isn’t the case with MAC Prep and Prime as it is more cream based.

I love when products contain UV protection because it is so important to protect your skin, especially when it is fair like mine. MAC Prep and Prime contains an impressive SPF 30! It’s compact design makes it easy to bring with you for touch ups, it even comes with a little mirror! All you need to do is bring a little brush with you and you are good to go! I personally don’t like using the sponge that comes with it, I much prefer using a brush, but that is a personal choice. This is another great product.

Yves Saint Laurent: Touche Eclat Concealer & Highlighter

I was excited to try this product as I had heard so many great things about it. It’s safe to say that if I really like a product, I will repurchase it. I haven’t thought about buying this again and I am trying to think why this is.

For the price of this product it had to do more for me than what I felt it did. It is a little too sheer for my liking and it definitely isn’t a solution for dark circles. I wouldn’t recommend buying this product with the main purpose of using it as a concealer, unless your skin is pretty clear to begin with. If I am going to spend £25.00 on a product over and over then I have to be in love with it and unfortunately I was not blown away. If you are interested in this product, I would definitely recommend heading into a shop and asking to try it as you could love this. Overall it isn’t a bad product but it just didn’t impress me as much as I was expecting it to.

Artwork by Nathalie Moore

For all you feline friendly females out there, this is the purrrrrfect bag! This cute cat creation was designed by the talented designer and illustrator Nathalie Moore. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to find out more!

Nathalie’s studio is based in Bournemouth, where she designs a variety of products. One of Nathalie’s most popular products are her cat zines, especially her ‘Cat State of Mind’ zine which contains a selection of her cat illustrations.

Cats are a recurring theme in Nathalie’s work and as a cat lover, this makes me happy! Her adorable ‘Natcats’ are miniature cats, made from polymer clay, baked, painted and then varnished. Nathalie also makes bespoke Natcats that are 3D portraits of customer’s pets, how sweet is that?!

Nathalie’s style is cute, colourful and quirky. She tries to stay away from creating things that are too digital, as she feels that they lose their personality.

“I enjoy making things that make me happy, that are a little bit different and will put a smile on someone’s face…I always try to create variation with my designs and illustrations and use both digital and more traditional processes and techniques as well as creating three dimensional work. I often find working with the hands and making things is therapeutic and encourages creativity.’

Instagram summary

So I know this post is a little different from my usual style, however my last couple of weeks have been quite hectic. I have started a new job (which is brilliant), attended the funeral of a loved one (which is obviously very sad) and got engaged to my babe (which is obviously incredibly wonderful) all in the period of two weeks!

So rather than my usual written post, I thought I would share with you a little Instagram recap. I’d love to connect with you on Instagram if we are not already connected! I’ll see you on there @mariannesophia and I hope you all have a brilliant week ahead!

Much love x

Paperself

Recently I was given the opportunity to try out some wonderful products from Paperself. Paperself are known for their beautiful and detailed paper-art eyelashes, which are a combination of tradition methods of Chinese craft and paper cutting and contemporary design. Paperself eyelashes have featured in the Hunger Games and were also worn by Rihanna in the Princess of China music video.

Paperself also have a collection of stylish premium temporary tattoos The tattoos are a combination of metallic and colour, accomplishing a very impressive, detailed an

d delicate look. Previously Paperself have also created bespoke pieces for the Alexander McQueen for the Savage Beauty exhibition.

The tattoos are a lot of fun as they allow you to be creative with placement and experiment with style due to wide variety of options. I particularly love the design of the eyelashes that I am wearing here and I admire the intricate details.
